Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda arrived in Hokkaido on Sunday for the summit of the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations.

Fukuda, host of the summit in the resort of Toyako, is expected to meet U.S. President George W. Bush in the afternoon. Japan has put talks on climate change high on the agenda of the gathering in the northern resort of Toyako to build on the outcome of last year's summit in Germany, where leaders agreed to seriously consider a target of halving greenhouse gas emissions by mid-century.

The leaders will also discuss the world economy and African development. G8 leaders will also have outreach sessions with developing countries to discuss these issues.
