In commemoration of the 14th anniversary of former president Kim Il Sung's death, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Tuesday held various events to pay respect to the late leader.

Kim Jong Il, top leader of the DPRK and son of Kim Il Sung, accompanied by senior military officers, visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace where the ex-president's body lies.

People laid flowers before statues and frescos of Kim Il Sung.

Meanwhile, editorials in the official newspapers Rodong Sinmun daily and Minju Joson daily vowed "to carry on the will of the former leader to build a prosperous and powerful country."

Kim Jong Il paid a visit to the Kumsusan Memorial Palace on April 15 for the 96th anniversary of the birth of Kim Il Sung.

The Kumsusan Memorial Palace, the official residence and office of the late president, was renovated and transformed into his final resting place following his death in 1994.

After Kim Il Sung's death, Eternal Towers were erected all over the country to "symbolize the country's founding father's immortality in the people's heart."
