Afghan National Security Forces backed by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) killed a known Taliban sub-commander during an early morning operation on Wednesday in Logar province, some 80 km south from Afghan capital Kabul, said an ISAF statement released here on Thursday.

More recently Mohammed Daud Rahimi, the sub-commander of Taliban outfits in Logar province, has been known to recruit for the insurgents and also known to have identified targets in Kabul to hit with suicide bombers and to transport suicide bombers to the capital, said the statement.

During the operation, two others were wounded of which one female was treated by a female medic on scene and released, it said.

The other wounded and another individual were detained after testing positive for recent contact with explosives, it added.

Afghanistan has witnessed a surge of violence and riot throughout the south to the east since Taliban militants launched a jail break on June 13.

At least 250 civilians, according to a recent report form the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), have been killed or injured in various incidents in Afghanistan since July 4.

Militancy and conflicts have claimed more than 2,000 people's lives so far this year in Afghanistan.
