The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) military Thursday accused U.S. soldiers of harassing DPRK soldiers on the heavily-guarded border with South Korea, said the official KCNA news agency.
DPRK officers in Panmunjom strongly protested against the U.S. soldiers who "obstructed the performance of duties by the guard personnel of the DPRK side in the Panmunjom conference room area,"KCNA said.
Kwak Yong Hun, delegate of the Panmunjom Mission of the Korean People's Army, warned that even the slightest provocation against the other party in the joint security area could spark an armed conflict at any moment.
The report did not specify the provocations.
The Joint Security Area is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone where soldiers of both sides stand face-to-face.
Kwak also urged the U.S. side to cancel the Ulji Freedom Guardian exercises, a U.S.-South Korean joint military exercise scheduled for Aug. 18-22.
