Vietnam and Brazil have agreed to strengthen cooperative relations in various fields, including economy, trade, investment, oil and gas, fishery, healthcare, education and poverty reduction, local newspaper Vietnam News reported Friday.
During talks between Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet and his visiting Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and meetings between the Brazilian president and other Vietnamese top leaders on July 10, the two sides emphasized the importance of promoting economic growth while developing social justice to fight against poverty, hunger, illiteracy and discrimination.
Vietnam and Brazil have eyed two-way trade of one billion U.S. dollars in 2010 from 323 million dollars in 2007 and 43 million dollar sin 2002.
The two sides also reached consensus on continuing to enhance bilateral cooperation in international organizations and multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.
On July 10, they signed some bilateral cooperation documents, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of an inter-governmental joint committee, a bilateral agreement on science and technology cooperation, and an MoU on combating poverty, and an MoU on sports cooperation.
