Niue's premier, Toke Talangi, said Fiji and climate change will be the key issues at next month's Pacific Islands Forum leaders meeting next month, the Siva-based Pacnews regional news agency reported on Friday.

The South Pacific tiny nation of Niue is hosting the meeting, schedule on Aug. 19-21, with New Zealand providing a security contingent.

Talangi said the leaders are likely to discuss the political situation in Fiji.

But he said the impact of global warming on the region is likely to be high on the agenda.

"The projected water level rises will impact on our waterlands, sitting underneath our islands," he said. "All of those things will have an impact in various forms with us as well as some of the other island countries."
