At least 16 people were killed Saturday in a clash between Pakistani security forces and pro-Taliban militants in a remote town in the country's northwest, according to the official PTV.
Militants ambushed a convoy of paramilitary forces in the Hanguarea in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, which led to clashes between the two sides, according to local TV channels.
Among the killed, most are the paramilitary Frontier Corps troops, said the PTV.
Two Taliban were also killed and six others injured in the exchange of fire. Two passerby children were also injured, according to TV reports.
The forces launched operation against the suspected hideouts of the militants after a security convoy came under attack, TV channels reported.
Taliban have recently surrounded a police station in Doaba after the police arrested a group of seven Taliban with weapons.
The Taliban later ended the siege after the forces took position and were planning operation.
