Hungarian explosives expert Captain Krisztian Nemes was killed by a bomb on Saturday in Baghlan province, Afghanistan, the Hungarian Defense Ministry said.
The Local authorities called the Hungarian explosives experts onto a road leading to Kunduz where a bomb was founded. Nemes and a local police officer began investigating the explosive when it exploded. The police officer was hospitalized and has not regained consciousness, the Hungarian News Agency MTI reported, citing the Defense Ministry's spokeswoman Andrea Eva Nagy.
It was unclear that what caused the bomb to explode. Defense Minister Imre Szekeres has called for an immediate investigation.
The Hungarian explosives experts will not carry out any tasks temporarily, and Szekeres supported this decision which was made by the explosives experts unit, MTI said.
Nemes had been sent to Afghanistan several weeks ago to replace Lieutenant Gyula Kovacs, who was killed by an explosive in June. Nemes is the second Hungarian to die in Afghanistan following Kovacs. Szekeres has declared Nemes a hero and promoted him to major posthumously.
The Hungarian Armed Forces is operating a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Baghlan province. The construction team has been working in Baghlan since 2006. The team includes nine explosives experts.
