A soldier with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Saturday died from injuries sustained in an explosion in northern Afghanistan, said an ISAF statement released here on Sunday.
"Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family and friends of the brave soldier who was killed today," said British Royal Navy Captain Michael Finney, ISAF spokesperson. "This soldier's life was taken while helping bring peace and security to Afghanistan."
In accordance with ISAF policy, the Force does not release the casualty's nationality prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
However, the Hungarian Defense Ministry confirmed on Sunday that roadside bombing in northern Afghan province of Baghalan claimed one Hungarian soldier on Saturday.
A total of 70,000 multi-national troops are deployed across Afghanistan under the flags of the NATO-led ISAF and the U.S.-led Coalition forces respectively for maintaining stability and helping in reconstruction.
Militancy and conflicts have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people with a total of 909 people including 712 civilians killed or wounded in suicide blasts across Afghanistan this year.
