One suicide attacker on Sunday exploded himself near a convoy of Afghan police, leaving at least 15 people dead and 30 others injured in southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, an official said.

Juma Gul Humat, the provincial police chief told Xinhua that the suicide attacker drove a car laden with explosive materials and exploded it near the police convoy patrolling in a crowd bazaar in Dihrawud district of Uruzgan province.

"Over ten civilians and five policemen were killed on the spot, and 30 others mostly civilians were wounded," Humat said.

The police official also noted that the number of casualties will grow higher.

No one has yet to claim responsibility for the incident.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in a statement released in Kaubl on Wednesday revealed that over 250 civilians were killed or injured in various incidents in Afghanistan over the past week.

Militancy and conflicts have claimed more than 2,000 people's lives so far this year in the country.
