The U.S.-led NATO forces on Tuesday geared up their movement on Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a sign of possible cross-border attack on tribal militants, local TVchannel reported.

"Hundreds of allied troops armed with their choppers, tanks, mortars and high-tech weapons have arrived at the Pak-Afghan borders," private Geo TV said.

The NATO forces have started arriving near the areas on the Pakistani border since last night, and the tribesmen have started shifting from the bordering areas, the TV quoted sources as saying.

The U.S. military, blaming Pakistan's local Taliban for increasing violence in Afghanistan, has threatened to launch cross-border attacks on the tribal areas.

But the Pakistani government has repeatedly said that foreign forces would not be allowed to operate on Pakistani soil.

Pakistan-U.S. relations have been strained by a U.S. air strike on June 10 which Pakistan said killed 11 of its soldiers.

Local media on Tuesday reported that the militant group Tahreek-i-Taliban, or Pakistan Taliban Movement, in Mohmand tribal agency warned that it would strongly retaliate any border violation if coalition forces undertake it.
