Bangladesh Saturday lodged a "strong protest" with the Indian government regarding to the recent border incident, which left two people of paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the protest note said that Bangladesh underscores the fact that it views the action of the BSF as "totally unacceptable".

The note also expressed the hope that the "Indian authorities will take appropriate action against those responsible and ensure that such incident will not recur".

On Thursday midnight BSF men boarding a speed boat and a mechanized boat entered 1.5 kms of the Padma river in Bangladesh's northern Chapai nawabganj district and opened fire when a BDR patrol team challenged their entry into Bangladesh territory.
