The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has issued a circular asking all diplomatic missions in Nepal and abroad to address the newly elected president and vice president as "His Excellency".
According to an official of the MoFA, it has sent the circular to all Nepali missions abroad and foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal, reported a leading website, eKantipur.com on Thursday.
According to the report, a previous cabinet decision had settled for addressing the president and the vice president as "Right Honorable", just like with the prime minister, the chief justice of the Supreme Court and the chairman of the Constituent Assembly, but later this was changed to "His Excellency" to distinguish the two positions from the others, the official said.
Similarly, the MoFA has sent another circular asking all missions to officially refer to Nepal as the "Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal". But the government has advised that Nepal can be referred to as the "Republic of Nepal" in general usage.
Ram Baran Yadav from the Nepali Congress was elected president on Monday, while the Constituent Assembly Saturday declared Madhesi People's Rights Forum candidate Paramananda Jha the first vice president of the republican Nepal.
