Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Saturday underlined the importance of a strong relationship between Pakistan and the United States.
Musharraf was talking to a leading U.S. foreign policy analyst, Dr. Harlan Ullman, who called on him, a Pakistani foreign ministry statement said.
He reiterated Pakistan's firm resolve to fight extremism and terrorism, according to the statement.
"In this context, he highlighted the government's multi-pronged strategy combining security, political and development measures, and the need to follow it aggressively," it said.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on Pakistan-U.S. relations and the regional situation.
Ullman said that a close relationship was in the interest of both countries as well as regional peace and stability.
Ullman is a senior advisor to U.S. think-tanks, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Atlantic Council, and author of several books, the statement said.
