Three people were killed in a landmine explosion in southeastern Turkey on Sunday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

The report said that the landmine, planted by the militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), exploded when a truck passing by hit it in Semdinli town of Hakkari province.

The three people who died in the blast were reported to be from the same family, said the report.

The PKK, listed by the United States and Turkey as a terrorist group, took up arms in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnic homeland in southeast Turkey. About 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
