A second shipment of food aid promised by the United States to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has arrived in the DPRK, the official KCNA news agency reported Tuesday.
The ship loaded with U.S. food aid put in the Nampho port on Monday, said the KCNA, which did not elaborate the amount or the type of the food aid. The South Korean Yonhap news agency said it was 23,000 tons of maize.
The DPRK was facing significant food shortages due to floods last year and other factors. The U.S. announced on May 16 it will give the DPRK 500,000 tons of food aid. The first shipment of 37, 000 tons of wheat arrived in late June.
