The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will strengthen friendly cooperation with ASEAN to contribute to peace and prosperity of the region, the official Rondong Sinmun daily said Friday.
The paper carried an article to mark the 41st anniversary of the founding of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), saying that the organization had played an important role in sustaining stability and development of the region as a cooperative regime of Southeast Asian nations.
The DPRK's acceding to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia was a token of its support to ASEAN and its willingness to contribute to the regional peace and prosperity, it said.
The DPRK will boost friendly relations with ASEAN under the principles of independence, peace and friendship, it added.
The DPRK signed the pact on July 24 and became the 25th member of the treaty. Source: Xinhua
