A senior Pakistani official said on Monday that the direct flight between Pakistan and the United States is likely to start next month.
The direct flight was discussed during Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's maiden visit to the United States last month.
"The matter was raised before the U.S. government during the visit and the host country had expressed it consent in this regard," the official Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahemd Mukhtar as saying.
Mukhtar is also chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Mukhtar said the PIA has already started direct flights from Canada, and the direct flight towards the United States would shortly be started as the U.S. government has shown its consent.
