The tribunal co-established by the U.N. and Cambodian government here Tuesday brought its first formal indictment against a former Khmer Rouge leader, said a statement.
The probing judges of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), issued the indictment against Kaing Guek Eav, also known as Duch, who headed the Pol Pot government's Tuol Sleng(S-21) prison camp in the 1970s, after their investigation into the case.
Duch, charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes, has been the first suspect indicted by the tribunal which was set up two years ago.
His trial is expected to begin late September, said local reports. Four other Khmer Rouge leaders are also in custody on similar charges. Source:Xinhua
