Indonesian President Susilo Bambng Yudhoyono said on Friday that the country's poverty rate has decreased from 17.7 percent in 2006 to 15.4 percent in March 2008.
The president made the statement in his annual address at parliament ahead of Indonesia's Independence Day on Aug. 17.
"The poverty figure in 2008 is the lowest," he told parliament.
The reduction was resulted by the government move of alleviating poverty recently, said Susilo.
Among the move was supporting small and medium enterprises, he said. "Among the move is the improving of the business climate and providing loans for small business."
The government had also raised by three folds budget for poverty alleviation, he said. Source:Xinhua
