Two soldiers with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) died of wounds suffered in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) strike and small arms fire attack on their patrol in eastern Afghanistan on Friday, said an ISAF statement.
The incident is still under investigation, the statement said.
However, it is ISAF policy to not release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
International troops mostly from U.S. have been stationed in eastern Afghan provinces fighting with Taliban militants there.
Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities across Afghanistan over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed in the war-torn country vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of more than 2,500 people including militants, troops and civilians so far this year in Afghanistan.
