KATHMANDU, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A minor explosion occurred at Vice President Parmananda Jha's residence in the Nepali capital of Kathmandu Sunday evening, Nepali police said.
According to Kathmandu District Police Chief Sarbendra Khanal, the "explosion was small" and it hurt" one person."
Superintendent of Police (SP) Khanal said that "security situation is under control" in the area.
However, security has been beefed up around vice president's residence.
Khanal said that the vice president was not at home when the explosion occurred. "He came back afterwards," local leading news website Nepalnews.com quoted SP Khanal as saying.
local leading news website THT Online reported that unknown persons detonated the bomb and fled the scene.
"Window panes of the house were also damaged in the explosion. Large number of security personnel have been mobilized there. Injured have been rushed to nearby hospital for treatment. Nobody has taken responsibility for the blast so far," the report said.
The first vice president took the oath from the president Ram Baran Yadav in Hindi language on July 23, causing a lot of controversies in Nepal.
