A suicide attack against NATO troops in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province the birthplace of Taliban militants on Tuesday left one person dead and two others injured including a Canadian soldier, a local official said.

"A terrorist tied explosive device in his body blew himself up next to a patrolling team of Canadian troops in Panjwai district at 07:00 a.m. local time this morning, killing an interpreter on the spot and injuring one Canadian soldier and a 12-year-old child," Mohammad Isa the police chief of Panjwai told Xinhua.

The terrorist was also killed in the bombing, he added.

Moreover, a press release of defense ministry released here Tuesday said that Afghan troops detained six terrorists from different parts of the country on Monday.

Some 2,500 Canadian forces have been serving in Kandahar within the framework of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kandahar to stabilize security in the restive province.

Taliban insurgents have intensified their violent activities across Afghanistan over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed in the country vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.

Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed over 3,000 people's lives including militants, troops and civilians so far this year in Afghanistan.
