Ten French soldiers with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were killed during a "significant" fighting with Taliban militants near Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday, an Afghan local TV Tolo reported.
Earlier the day, an ISAF statement released here said ISAF soldiers have been involved in a significant incident with insurgents in Kabul Province on Monday and the fighting is still going on.
Insurgents sparked the clash by an attack on ISAF patrol Mondayin the Sarobi district, 50 km away from the center of Kabul, said the ISAF media office said.
Most of the 3,000 French troops have been stationed in the relatively peaceful Kabul province, which includes Sarobi, and Kapisa, northeast of the capital.
Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities across Afghanistan over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed in the war-torn country vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 3,000 people.
