Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukudatold reporters Tuesday that he will convene the next Diet session in mid-September, but the opening date will be determined early next week.
The decision came after Fukuda held a meeting earlier in the day with government officials and senior members of the coalition bloc.
At the meeting, the prime minister raised such issues as economic measures, the refueling mission in the Indian Ocean, and consumer policy that should be discussed in the next Diet session.
The opening date is most likely to be set on Sept. 12 or 19, said Hidehisa Otsuji, head of the Liberal Democratic Party's upperhouse caucus, at a news conference.
