One day after taking the oath of office and secrecy, Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" Tuesday instructed the government secretaries to keep in mind the problems and interests of the people.

The Prime Minister called a meeting with all top-level government officials on Tuesday afternoon to deliver his special directions. Over 50 secretaries and other district-level officers were present in the meeting, local newspaper The Himalayan Times reported on Wednesday.

"Prime Minister Prachanda has reminded us of the people's expectation on this critical juncture of the history and our responsibility to fulfill the great responsibility," Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communication Yubaraj Pandey said, "He has requested us to work without any prejudice against any party in the government and assured us that each of the civil servant would be rewarded fairly on the basis of performance."

During his instructions, PM Prachanda assured the officials that the new government to be led by his party, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M), would not make any kind of discrimination against the civil servants on the basis of ideologies, and appreciate their honesty while performing duty.

He urged all the civil servants to discharge their duty with full confidence keeping in mind the problems and interests of the people, and to disseminate the message to the grassroots level that the shortcomings that have surfaced in the bureaucracy would not repeat in the future.

Reiterating his party's commitment to the multiparty system, Prachanda said the CPN-M had come to the peace process with the view that the society could be changed through multiparty system.

Speaking on behalf of the secretaries, acting Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Paudel said that the entire civil servant community was committed to follow the instructions given by the Prime Minister.
