An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 hit Japan's Kanto region Wednesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The focus of the quake, which occurred 3:13 p.m. (0613 GMT), was some 50 km underground in southern Ibaraki Prefecture.

Obvious shocks were felt in most buildings in Tokyo and its vicinity.

The operation of trains either on shinkansen or conventional lines in the area were not affected, said train operators East Japan Railway Co. and Central Japan Railway Co..

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. And no Tsunami warning was issued.
