New Zealand troops were to train with United States forces in Germany next month.

New Zealand Defense Minister Phil Goff said 172 personnel from Burnham will be involved in Exercise Cooperative Spirit with Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States, Radio New Zealand reported on Thursday.

It's the first time New Zealand soldiers will be training with the group.

Goff said it's an important exercise and shows the relationship with the U.S. is continuing to improve.
