The Pakistani army said Saturday that they killed over 30 militants in the restive Swat valley in the northwest.

The News Network International (NNI) news agency quoted Major Nasir Ali, who is in charge of the army's media center in Swat, assaying that the security forces launched a major operation in Kanju and Kabbal area of Swat early Saturday morning.

Ali said over 30 Taliban were killed during the operation and two soldiers also lost their lives.

The security forces used gunship helicopters to shell positions of the suspects, Ali said, adding that they destroyed an illegal FM radio station of Taliban at Matta area.

Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan rejected the army claims of casualties and claimed that Taliban killed 20 soldiers, according to NNI.

In another incident, a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a police station, killing two policemen and injuring 11 other people including two civilians.

An army statement said that a suicide attack took place at a police station in Matta area, killing 2 policemen and injuring 11 others including 2 civilians.

A blast occurred near a police station in Swat on Saturday morning, killing at least 20 people, according to state-run PTV.
