An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Leyte, Philippines at 10:47 a.m. (0247 GMT) on Monday, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The epicenter was initially determined to be 10.2 degrees north latitude and 125.3 degrees east longitude, about 50 km north-northwest of Surigao.
