Jordan on Monday sent a shipment of aid to South Ossetia, where a recent conflict between Russia and Georgia has victimized tens of thousands of people, Jordanian official news agency Petra reported.

The aid includes 12 tons of foodstuff and medical equipment, said Mohammed Majed Eitan, secretary general of the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization.

The aid was promised by King Abdullah II during his Sunday meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Abdullah said in the meeting that Jordan intended to send humanitarian aid to help those harmed by the conflict, especially in South Ossetia.

King Abdullah is currently on a visiting tour, which has taken him to Russia and Turkmenistan and is scheduled to end in France.
