The Japanese Foreign Ministry confirmed Tuesday that a Japanese national was kidnapped in Afghanistan.

According to a foreign ministry press release, a report from UN affiliates reached the Japanese Embassy to Afghanistan at 7:40 a.m.(0310 GMT), saying that a male member of Peshawar-kai, a nongovernmental organization, was abducted in eastern Pakistan.

The ministry said that a task force has been set up in the Japanese embassy to tackle the issue.

Kazuya Ito, the 31-year-old Abductee, was from Shizuoka Prefecture, Kyodo News reported, citing the NGO's local office in Kabul.

There has been no ransom request so far, it said.
