One un-manned air craft belonging to the U.S.-led Coalition forces crashed on Wednesday in eastern Afghan province of Paktika, said a Coalition statement.
"The aerial vehicle used for reconnaissance suffered a mechanical malfunction causing its parachute to deploy and crash in the Yosof Khail district of Paktika," the statement said.
"This incident is under investigation," it added.
International troops have suffered several air craft accidents in the past one month along the bordering provinces of war-torn Afghanistan. A helicopter with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) made an emergency landing in eastern Afghan province of Kunar, killing one service member and injuring three others on Aug. 24. A U.S. military helicopter was shot down by militants in Kunar province in 2006, killing all 16 aboard.
Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities across Afghanistan over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed in the war-torn country vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 3,000 people so far this year.
