Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the U.S.-led Coalition forces have killed over 100 insurgents during joint operations in southern Afghan province of Helmand, said a Coalition statement released here on Thursday.
; ANSF and Coalition forces launch the joint operation in Helmand on Aug. 25, the statement said.
"The combine forces were attacked on patrol by insurgents using small-arms, rocket-propelled grenade and mortar fire, sparking numerous engagements for numerous times," it said. "The patrols returned fire and called in close-air support against the insurgents."
"Over 100 militants have been killed so far and the operation is still ongoing. No ANSF, Coalition forces or civilian casualties were reported," it said.
Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities targeting Afghan and international troops over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed in the war-torn country vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.
