Bangladesh and India Sunday agreed to take action against militants and insurgent outfits and reaffirmed their commitment not to allow their territories to be used for any activity inimical to each other's interests.
The two sides also agreed to take steps against smuggling of arms, ammunitions, explosives and fake currency.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between Bangladeshi Home Secretary Abdul Karim and his Indian counterpart Madhukar Gupta that ended here Sunday.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, the Bangladesh home secretary said India has assured that steps would be taken to minimize the civilian killings by Indian border guards.
According to Bangladesh's official statistics, around 165 Bangladeshi civilians, mostly cattle traders, were killed by the Indian border guards this year, which is a major concern of Dhaka.
However, the meeting did not make any progress on demarcation of 6.5 kilometers of unmarked border between the two South Asian neighbors.
The two sides agreed to convene a meeting of the Joint Boundary Working Group at an early date to discuss all outstanding boundary related issues.
The meeting also agreed to enhance cooperation between the Narcotics Control Departments of the two countries and a meeting of the two Narcotics Department will be held in October in New Delhi, India.
