At least 10 people were killed as a shell hit their house in Pakistan's tribal area on Monday, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported.
The 10 people, mostly women and children belonging to the same family were killed when a shell fired by security forces against the militants landed at their house at the town of Enayat Qila in Bajaur tribal region, according to NNI.
However, the state-run Pakistan Television put the death toll at eight.
Interior Advisor to Prime Minister Rehman Malik last week said security forces would halt operation against militants with respect to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which will begin on Tuesday.
The security forces are engaged in operations against the militants in the tribal region of Bajaur as well as the Swat valley in the country's northwest.
