Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is likely to win the next presidential election in 2009, defeating former president Megawati Soekarnoputri who has top popularity, a survey quoted by a paper said here Tuesday.

The survey carried out by the Indonesian Research and Development Institute (Irdi) said that the retired general Susilo would win a head-to-head duel against Megawati due to most of supporters of others president candidates preferred voting for Susilo to Megawati.

Several candidates will take part in the second Indonesia direct presidential election next year.

The survey revealed that President Susilo's policy of raising oil price would not have serious impact.

"It's also clear that the recent fuel price increase will have little impact on Susilo's chances," said Mandica.
