Indonesia gave support to Thai government to solve political crisis in the country through national referendum, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said in Jakarta Friday.

Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej pledged on Thursday to carry out a national referendum on whether he should resign, as one of efforts to end the crisis against his rule that has spilled over into violence.

But, the People's Alliance for Democracy, which had been leading a three-month campaign against the prime minister, rejected the plan and would continue their occupation of the government compound, which entered an 11th day Friday.

Vice President Kalla told a press conference that Thailand, with parliamentary system, had experienced that when the political crisis occurred it usually be settled by referendum.

Thai prime minister announced the referendum plan following tens of thousands of anti-government demonstrators occupied the his office complex.
