An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck north of Wellington on Saturday afternoon, the GNS Science reported.

The quake, occurring at 2:58 p.m. local time (0258 GMT), was centered 10 km north of Upper Hutt at a focal depth of 30 km.

The quake was felt throughout the Wellington region.
