The U.S. Embassy in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad and the U.S. Consulate in the southern city of Karachi received envelopes containing an unknown white powder last week, according to local press reports Sunday.

The GEO TV quoted U.S. embassy spokesman Lou Fintor as saying that tests were being conducted on the substance. But he declined comment on whether any embassy staffers had become ill or were under observation.

The envelopes were sent to the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. consulate in Karachi on Thursday and Friday. Fintor said that the two facilities had remained open, with no plans to close them.
