Solomon Islands Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua has reiterated the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) is a partnership between Solomon Islands and the participating Pacific Island Forum countries, the Pacnews reported on Tuesday.

Sikua made the comments in a function jointly hosted by the National Parliament and RAMSI in Honiara marking the fifth anniversary of the regional intervention forces.

Sikua said his government and RAMSI have formed Partnership Framework that will guide the activities of the regional force in Solomon Islands whose work should be finalized by the end of the year.

He said the framework is RAMSI's response to a call by his Coalition for National Unity and Rural Advancement Government (CNURA) on the regional intervention force to realign its activities in support for its policies and programs.

But Sikua said RAMSI's success depends to a large extent on the close cooperation and support the government and Solomon Islanders render it, adding the support rendered will be reciprocated.

The close cooperation and support fall in line with the new policy of the CNURA Government that stipulates working together with RAMSI and the region on the basis of dialogue and consultation, rather than being confrontational.

Since RAMSI's arrival in Solomon Islands five years ago, it has been re-building and re-strengthening Solomon Islands' sovereignty, Sikua said.

He also said RAMSI has also been engaged in capacity building in the areas of human resources development and the transfer of skills and expertise especially in the Royal Solomon Islands Police.

All 16 members of the Pacific Islands Forum are contributing troops and civilian personnel to RAMSI.
