Taliban militants claimed responsibility for killing governor of Afghanistan's Logar province and his three bodyguards in a roadside bomb attack on his bullet proof vehicle in the outskirts of Afghan capital Kabul Saturday.
Zabihullah Mujahed, the purported Taliban spokesman, told Xinhua via phone from an unknown hide out that the outfits planted roadside mine on the way that the ill-fated governor Abdullah Wardak used to pass by.
Earlier, the provincial police chief Mustafa Mohsini told Xinhua that Abdullah Wardak on Saturday morning was coming out from his residence in Paghman, 20 km west of Kabul, when a remote-controlled bomb struck his car, killing him and his three bodyguards.
He put the attack on "the enemies of Afghanistan", a term used against Taliban militants.
Logar, 60km south of Kabul, has been the scene of militants activities for the past one year as the insurgents shot dead three foreign aid workers in the province in August.
Spiraling insurngecy and Taliban-linked violence have left around 4,000 people dead, mostly insurgents, so far this year. Source:Xinhua
