Three of the five local charity workers were freed hours after being abducted by suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf in southern Philippines, a military spokesman said Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo, spokesman of the Philippine Navy, told reporters that the three were released without ransom payment to the town mayor of Tipo-Tipo in Basilan province late Monday night.
Arevalo confirmed that two others are still being kept in custody.
A group of 12 people working for Christian Children's Fund and the Nagdilaab Foundation were earlier confronted by suspected Abu Sayyaf armed bandits Monday afternoon when they wrapped up developmental and humanitarian work in a village of Tipo-Tipo.
Seven aid workers managed to escape the bandits' capture.
The situation of the two still in captive is not clear as the police and military are conducting the rescue.
