Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has accepted Zaid Ibrahim's resignation as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia's national news agency Bernama reported on Tuesday.

Badawi made this remark during a tour in Malaysia's northern state of Penang on Tuesday.

Badawi said that he received a telephone call from Zaid Tuesday morning informing him that the decision was final, according to Bernama.

Since Zaid was adamant on resigning, Badawi said he had no further comment.

Zaid reportedly submitted a resignation letter to Badawi on Sunday, but Badawi advised Zaid to rethink it.

The current Malaysian cabinet has five minister posts in the Prime Minister's Department. Zaid was the minister in charge of law affairs.
