The United States on Thursday officially announced the signing of an agreement valued at 8.4 million U.S. dollars to help tackle Pakistan's food crisis, according to the U.S embassy in Pakistan.
The United States will grant the aid to the World Food Program (WFP) and other U.N. agencies to give about 11,000 metric tons of wheat to the Pakistanis, News Network International (NNI) news agency said.
Reports said the WFP will distribute the food aid in 12 districts in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Balochistan province this month.
This food aid will benefit 238,500 households and 265,000 boy and girl students in NWFP and Balochistan, said a statement from the U.S embassy.
"This program will benefit thousands of Pakistan who are affected by the rising price of basic food items," said U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson at the launching ceremony. Source: Xinhua
