Hagupit, locally known as "Nina", intensified into a typhoon and continued to move towards Philippines' Northern Luzon Sunday afternoon, the Philippine weather agency said.
The typhoon was 420 kilometers east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora as of 4 p.m. (0800 GMT), packing maximum sustained winds of120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest report.
The typhoon will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and bring rains over Luzon and Visayas, particularly over the western sections, said PAGASA.
Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides, it added.
Hagupit is moving west-northwest at 19 kph and is expected to be 130 km northeast of Aparri, Cagayan Monday afternoon.
By Tuesday afternoon, it is expected to be 300 km northwest of Laoag City, PAGASA said.
By Wednesday afternoon, Hagupit is expected to be 690 km west-northwest of Laoag City.
