Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced Sunday night her appointment of Jesus Versoza, Philippine National Police Deputy Director General, as the new police chief of the country, radio reports said.
President Arroyo made the announcement at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, before flying to New York for the 63rd United Nations General Assembly, dzRB radio reported.
The report said President Arroyo would arrive home in time for the retirement ceremonies of National Police Chief Avelino Razon Jr. on Sept. 27. At his retirement, Razon will formally turn over the top police post to Versoza.
