The third Indo-Nepal Power Summit 2008 will begin in Nepali capital Kathmandu on Tuesday to explore the possibilities of hydropower project cooperation between Nepal and India.
According to The Himalayan Times daily, Deputy Prime Minister Bam Dev Gautam will inaugurate the two-day summit. As many as 300 delegates from Nepal and India are expected to participate in the meeting.
Indian Minister of State for Commerce and Power Jairam Ramesh and a 60-member delegation that includes leading power developers will grace the summit.
The Nepal government is organizing the summit in collaboration with the Nepal India Chambers of Commerce and Industries and the Independent Power Producers' Association of Nepal, backed by India's Power Trading Corporation.
During the summit, issues like the impact of Nepal's hydro power policies on future power projects, risks associated with financing power projects, availability of credit in financing power projects and installation of transmission lines to facilitate power exchange will be discussed.
The summit is also expected to address the current situation, impediments and future prospects of power trade and the development of the power sector, reported the daily.
