Typhoon Hagupit (locally known as "Nina") killed at least eight people in the Philippines as of Tuesday and is now moving to China's Hong Kong.
In its latest report, the Philippine National Disaster Coordinating Council said that most of the victims died in landslides and drowning incidents caused by the typhoon.
At least 19 were injured while another 15 remain missing, according to the report.
The disaster-relief agency said that some 10,352 persons were affected by the typhoon, among whom, 293 persons stayed in three evacuation centers.
Weather forecasters said that Hagupit continued to move further away from the Southeast Asian country.
The typhoon, packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph, will be 780 kms West Northwest of Laoag City, northern Philippines, or 190 kms South Southwest of Hong Kong on Wednesday morning, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
