Jordan and the United States have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU), under which Jordan will receive an annual aid of 660 million U.S. dollars over a five-year span, local daily The Jordan Times reported Wednesday.
The MoU stipulates 360 million dollars each year in economic support and another 300 million dollars in foreign military financing.
It will help meet common goals of enhanced strategic dialogue and boost military cooperation, the Jordanian Embassy to the United States said in a statement.
"This MoU is the testimony to our strong partnership and is an important step towards enhancing bilateral relations," Jordanian Foreign Minister Salah Bashir was also quoted as confirming.
"Jordan is one of our closest allies in the Arab world. It has been a strong and steady supporter of our efforts to fight terrorism and promote regional stability and security, including in Iraq and the Palestinian areas," said Fhilip Frayne, an official in the U.S. embassy in Amman.
Jordan is a country of limited natural resources. Foreign aid, along with tourism, overseas remittances and exports of phosphates and potash, constitutes the kingdom's economic base. Source:Xinhua
